Proper handling and disposal of residual cork by products always has been one of Parramon Exportap’s goals.  This September we have achieved an important milestone as our new biomass converter is now functional.  The outer cork bark, which is removed from cork strips after the cork stoppers have been punched, becomes the organic fuel for the converter, generates energy, and, in the process, is transformed again into carbon dioxide (CO2) replenishing the earth’s atmosphere.

We estimate that this biomass converter will produce enough energy to power the cork stopper production machinery, the cork washing area as well as generating ambient heat within the factory during the winter months.

Francesc Parramon, President of Parramon Exportap says, “We have the privilege of working with a product of nature and we have always sought to manage it responsibly.  Our biomass converter helps us do that and reduce our hydrocarbon consumption.”
